Applause is offering an exciting CPD/Development opportunity to artists. We will deliver a residential Lab for Kent/Essex-based Black/Asian and ethnically diverse artists whose creative practice is based in outdoor dance or contemporary circus. This will be a practical event that delves into the nuts and bolts of outdoor rural touring, offering detail and insight about where to look for commissioning and touring opportunities, examples of tried and tested techniques and approaches to making work for these settings and what to consider when building partnerships with promoters and rural communities. It will involve a varied programme of workshops, seminars and creative tasks in order to expand their development and thinking in different contexts.

To support the research, development or the creation of new outdoor performance works, Applause will be awarding seed funding to 5 Kent/Essex based artists who are already working in, interested in or who are developing performances for Outdoor contexts.

A commission opportunity for two new shows is also being provided by Applause for Kent/Essex-based Black/Asian and ethnically diverse artists. The commission opportunity includes cash funding and a minimum guarantee of 6 touring dates across Kent, East and West Sussex and Essex as part of the Applause 2023 Summer Season. Newly commissioned artists will both benefit from our established extensive touring network as well as new participants in South Essex and North Kent.
