Recording Instructions and FAQ

Recording Instructions

Step 1:

Decide which theme you’d like to respond to:

The themes are:

  • Record yourself describing what you can see out of your window.
  • Record the sound of your friend, or someone whose story you think is worth saving.
  • Record the sound of a place from the area you think may vanish
  • Record yourself or someone else doing a job you don’t think will exist in a century’s time.

Think about a sound that you can easily record, that is located in the Thames Estuary.  The sound can of be anything real and not manipulated

Step 2

Once you have decided on which questions you’d like to respond to – and which sounds you’ll like to send – the next step is to record them. To do this, you can use a wide variety of phones – so don’t worry about not having the latest technology or apps. It may take you more than one attempt to capture the sound. So take your time and make sure you capture the sound that you want to submit. Remember if you are submitting responses to more than one theme, please record each response as a separate recording.

The below options highlight the most common features of phone systems We have included the most widely used phone systems – but we are aware there are others out there. Please get in touch with us if you need any help with this process.

You can of course also use other recording software. We just need a sound file from you – so unfortunately we cannot accept analogue forms of submission for this project.
